※ Hinoki wood ‘breathes’ over time, sometimes oozing a bit of scented resin or sap onto the surface of the wood.
Hinoki sap has an antibacterial effect. More sap means that the wood is more water resistant, and will last longer than wood with less sap.
Hinoki sap can be removed by wiping with a cloth wetted with commercially available rubbing alchohol. The wood can then be returned to its original beauty by lightly polishing with sandpaper.
